Guard against wind rock
Cut back tall deciduous shrubs like roses, mallow (Lavatera) and Buddleja davidii, reducing their height by about a third. Otherwise the wind can catch over-tall growth, pushing the plant about and loosening the roots. Cut back to a leaf joint, and mulch well afterwards to see them through winter.
